Carson's group plays a unpretentious, joyous "small-band swing" in the tradition of  Louis Armstrong, Lester Young, Bobby Hackett, Jack Teagarden, Russell, and the small groups that recorded with Billie Holiday, Basie, Ellington, and a touch of Eddie Condon. The flavor is infectious, friendly and fresh.

Ham Carson plays with the Pilgrim Street Swing as well as his own jazz/swing quintet. Ham’s stable of local greats include: Bob Hammer, piano; Patti Paddon, Drums; Chris Clark, Doug DeMeerleer, Buddy Catlett, and Mike Barnet, Bass; Ken Wiley, Trombone; Peter Kok, piano; Paul Elliot, violin; Susan Pascal, vibes.
